Rockwood Municipal Airport

Communiqué to the General Public Concerning Airport and Area Development

            The Rockwood Municipal Airport (ICAO: KRKW) is announcing completion of Phase II of its plan of business and is moving forward with further developments of the facility. We thank local community leaders, the State of Tennessee and the public for working with us as we have brought the Rockwood Airport up to par with some of the most sophisticated airport facilities in the country. It has been a laborious journey, yet we have accomplished more than most would have imagined in the past few years. However as we’ve reached the summit, we spy other vast mountains to scale, as we continue our developments. We’ve only begun the journey of creating the next great regional airport in the Cumberland Plateau.

In the last few years, the Rockwood Municipal Airport, through several million dollars in grants and investments, has added the following to the facility:

Ÿ         A new, advanced pavement overlay to help keep the visage of the facility in mint condition for years to come;

Ÿ         A full-length taxiway, parallel to the 5,000-foot runway, allowing for aircraft up to Boeing 737s to utilize the facility safely and with ease;

Ÿ         The latest in weather reporting stations, a NexWos (Third Generation), the basis for all instrument approaches;

Ÿ         A 24-hour automated fuel farm with both Jet-A and 100LL aviation fuels available;

Ÿ         A full-service FBO with catering, on-demand rental vehicles, pilot lounge and weather in an immaculately clean and welcoming atmosphere;

Ÿ         Homeland Security grants to make the facility one of the most secure in the area;

Ÿ         and full dusk-to-dawn, pilot controlled airfield lighting.

The facility already sits upon on of the most commercially active areas of Tennessee, and as the airport is only one mile from Interstate-40, rapid travel to the rest of the state is possible. It takes only 35 minutes to get to the recently developed Farragut area of Knoxville, which has a vast assortment of fine establishments for shopping and dining. Another ten minutes beyond the Farragut area, lies the commercial and business center of the city of Knoxville, which is currently undergoing a renaissance, with new businesses opening and outside corporations coming to the area.

Even closer, the surrounding property to the airport is in the middle of a tri-county initiative to construct the 1200-acre Plateau Partnership Park, bringing great economic benefit to the area. This effort, hinged on the development of the Airport, will bring needed jobs, revenue and infrastructure to the area. Property values in the area will rise, as will the standard of living for all those in the vicinity.

The convenient and secure Rockwood Municipal Airport is becoming a thriving center of commerce in the Cumberland Plateau, and helping to make it one of the most attractive areas of the State for businesses, industry and investment.

I cordially invite anyone who wishes a tour of our facility to contact the Rockwood Municipal Airport for any further information.
